The Power of Prayer
THE POWER OF PRAYER
I believe in life that is not of this world. I believe all over the universe there is a presence of mind, power and thought, that none of us can fully comprehend. Science knows some things about the universe but, very little. Some scientists argue that what is known is less than one percent of one percent, of one percent. There are many unanswered questions. I believe there is a divine power of life that is everywhere. That life is God.
God, the very name brings to our mind an idea that is near impossible to get your hands around. It is just three letters in the English but it is three letters of awesome depth.
Scientists are trying to communicate with something that is out there. We do not know what is out there they say, but they are trying to communicate. They do not realize that the life they think is out there is indeed out there, and it is already on earth. It is God, and the spirit forces of angels and demons. A powerful thought.
Yet, here is my focus in this short article. We can now communicate with this, All Powerful Being, God. He has told us how to do it. It is the use of the human mind and thought. It is called, PRAYER!
Yes, the God of Eternity is Spiritual and desires a spiritual connection with humanity. He desires that all humans be born again of water and the sprit and be transformed into a child that belongs to Him. Now, as part of that divine relationship we have many blessings. One of the most powerful blessings of all, is that of PRAYER.
Here is a fascinating passage of Scripture. Revelation 8:1-5
When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake."
There are many profound thoughts in this passage of Scripture. However, let's zero in on, PRAYER. The text says an Angel has the prayers of the people of God. He sends them forth unto God, Himself. Then another thought. The angel takes the censer and fills it with fire and hurls it to earth. It is heaven's response to those prayers.
God's people were being tormented and killed. They prayed. God hears. God responds.
I would tell you this about prayer. It is one of the most powerful forces available at the hands of God's people. The Bible in one hand and prayer in the other hand makes a combination that is so powerful that it is truly beyond our full comprehension.
God hears the prayers of His people. He will always respond. First, he may say, flat, NO. It is not good for us and not what is needed. He says, NO. Second, He may say, WAIT AWHILE. Not now, but later. We must wait. God's timing is always, PERFECT. Third, God may answer, you do not need what you are asking, but I will give you something else. He gives us what is best. Fourth, God may well say, YES. Then the showers of blessings fall from heaven and we see God's gifts bestowed upon us.
God always answers prayers of his people.
But, I want to emphasize that the great God of the Universe, the Almighty, is listening to you. I would urge you to always pray. I would urge special times of prayer. Be quite and alone with God and talk to him and tell Him your sorrows and troubles. Always thank Him for you have and what He has done for you. One of the greatest things you can do for others is, to pray for them. Pray. Prepare your mind and thoughts for the wonderful spiritual exercise of prayer.
Prayer can do amazing things. The Lord prayed, "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil". One of the great powers of prayer is to seek God's help is distancing ourselves from evil and its power and effects in our lives. Yes, there is a great, spiritual war going on all around us. We are in this war. We need help. We need God and His great power to crush the evil one and deliver us from such darkness.
Prayer is so powerful. I urge all of God's people to avail themselves of such power on a regular basis. I doubt seriously if God's people have fully utilized this awesome power. There is power in prayer for the individual and for the collective body of Christ. Think of it, you pray or speak to God, your words are carried forth from this world into a spiritual realm and they are brought forth unto the awareness of the one and only, GREAT, GOD, OF THE UNIVERSE, THE ALMIGHTY! Now, that is a thought, beyond full comprehension. But, hang on, that Great God, the Almighty, will take your prayer and send back a RESPONSE. "...The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." (James 5:16).
Let us all spend much time, in Prayer!
"pray without ceasing;" (I Thess. 5:17).
