The Oklahoma Tornadoes/Lessons Learned

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE OKLAHOMA TORNADOES?

There are so many lessons we can learn from this terrible disaster. Yes, life is full of lessons every day. However, we rarely stop to contemplate all that could be learned. We are all so busy with so many things in life. Soon, even this terrible tragedy will pass from our conscience thoughts and we shall forget. All, too soon.
However, for now let us think on what we can learn. I will not mention all the lessons that I now see but will give you one thought for your consideration. I hope you ponder it well.

The picture here attached is a pile of rubble and a sign is there on the rubble stating, "the most important things in life aren't things". Think on this lesson.

We all strive to make money each week to feed ourselves and family and provide things we need and to provide pleasures and comforts. You watch HGTV as people look for a house to buy and how picky they become if the counter tops are not granite and if the floors are not high end wood. You see them argue and fuss and become often even rude and ugly in their quest for things. All of this is human nature but not so much the better angel that should be in us. I see many tearing a kitchen out that others all over the world, millions indeed would love to have. The irony of life.

We should learn that life, real life is not the abundance of things. Our life should be measured in far greater treasurers than a big screen TV.

Paul said to Timothy long ago, "we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we shall carry nothing out" (I Tim. 6:6-10). So true, so true!

We should treasure the things most valuable. Such things as faith, hope and love. We should treasure our family and our friends. We should treasure memory of those we have loved and lost. We should treasure people and strive to help others have a better life. We should treasure God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Bible. We should treasure truth, loyalty, and sacrifice. We should treasure nobility of character and every act of kindness. We should treasure life itself for life is so short.

We are all marching to the tick of the clock and soon the hands of time will stop with our heart beat and we are no more. Then all these things of life that we fretted over will be of no real consequence.
A great tornado can come into town and in a few minutes take all these things away. But, the tragedy is not the houses, cars, furniture, and many things. It is not the price tag of billions in assets lost. It is the deaths of 24 and of that number 9 children. More may be listed in coming days. I marvel that more did not die. Could it be the great prayers of saints intervened and God's great hand restrained the storm and direction and saved hundreds? Could the news have reported today, that 5,000 had died instead of 24? God is merciful. God is good.

Could it be in the grand scheme of life that as a result of this storm many souls will now turn to God in repentance and more will be in heaven because of it? Could it be more will draw close to God now because of this tragedy? Could it be that more will love their families deeper as they witness the brevity of life and see what is really important?

Yes, things are things and they are not the essence of life. Let us live each day as if it could be our last and put our faith in God. Let us value the most important things in life, each other! God be with you dear ones in Oklahoma and give you peace. God help us all to value what is most valuable.
